Rationale for assessment design:
A literature review is the first task when undertaking a research study, you are NOT DOING A RESEARCH PROJECT, but learning how to find out what is known and what is not known on a subject of your choice. The students are not undertaking a systematic literature review – which is a much greater piece of work and would be expected to include all known literature on the problem which is more indicative of PhD level piece of work.
Undertaking a literature review will enable the development of the following skills-
analytical problem solving skills;
active learning through identification of a problem to be explored and completed;
skills development for independent research;
application of academic knowledge to practice

The learning outcomes are statements of what you should have learnt by the time you come to the end of the module. To successfully complete the module, that is to pass it, you will need to demonstrate that you have met all of the learning outcomes. The assessment task for the module is designed to help you do that.

On successful completion of this module the student will be expected to be able to:

1. Negotiate a summative, integrative topic or investigation appropriate to a 30 credit project demonstrating a creative and flexible approach
2. Collect, organise, understand and interpret information from a variety of resources, acting autonomously, with minimal supervision
3. Identify, select and justify the use of appropriate techniques, methods and development strategies, incorporating an ethical dimension where appropriate
Intellectual, practical, affective and transferable skills
4. Communicate clearly and appropriately, demonstrating a sense of audience
5. Demonstrate a capacity for conceptual, critical and independent thinking
6. Draw relevant conclusions, or achieve an alternative synthesis from the above and, where appropriate, propose flexible and creative approaches to problem solving.
