The values of nursing in various countries are fixed in the values of the country’s culture. However, many cultures fail to share the dominance of the individualism value. Thus, this hinders the quality health delivery among nurses. On the other hand, in many cultures, healthcare decisions are made by a group: community, family or society but not an individual. Socialized medicine or government-sponsored healthcare for all peoples relies on the weight placed on collectivism, thus becoming a challenge to nurses. Misunderstandings between nurses and the community bring about lack of deference for individuals whose cultural values remain diverse from individual?s own and to possible and real damage to those individuals, whether psychologically, physically, culturally, or spiritually (Ringer, 2013).
