The country is headed in the wrong direction as people’s mentality has not changed at all when it comes to diseases of the body such as diabetes and brain diseases such as depression. People are putting more emphasis on bodily diseases while forgetting the brain ones. The rising rate of mental illnesses has led the country in a state of constant alarm as more people are not seeking mental-related medication due to the fear of being stigmatized by society. Things such as wealth which ones made people feel safe are now impacting negatively on their health as they take most of their time looking for it while overlooking their health. As a result, diseases such as stress and depression end up attacking them deteriorating their health.

My take on mental illness is that these disorders have been on the rise for the last couple of years in spite of the society’s capability in managing other serious conditions. People’s failure to take medication has contributed to the rise of these disorders (World Health Organization, 2003). Many people do not realize that all is not well with them until things get out of hand. Those who realize it early enough fail to seek medication due to the fear of how society will view them. Additionally, people also fail to seek medication due to the lack of new methods of treatments for patients seeking help. This is as a result of usage of drugs that were developed some years back which do not match the current conditions. The only way to deal with these conditions is by trying to live healthy lives by leading a stress free life. Any words which can cause emotional damage should be avoided by all means while addressing the root causes of distress rather than the symptoms. Mental Illness Sample Essay

The status of mental health in the country has been progressive in the recent past leading to a sturdier comprehension of the essence of protective issues. There has been progress on the comprehension of how the brain operates normally and how it responds to stress. Through this, it has been realized that youths have the highest chances for keeping themselves from these disorders and that depression cases among expectant mothers and teenagers can be minimized significantly. The above-identified progress has contributed to the introduction of multidisciplinary preventive policies at communal levels that sustain the growth of youngsters in strong societal surroundings (World Health Organization, 2003). Additionally, emerging mental disorders among distinct groups in the country such as natural disasters causing large-scale psychological trauma in certain communities have been addressed. This has been by giving attention to and providing certain services to these individuals through the provision of new opportunities for access and coverage for treatment and prevention services.

To heal people suffering from mental disorders wholly and holistically, the social stigma associated with these disorders must be addressed. This can be done by encouraging equality between physical and mental illness. People should be made to understand that there exists no difference between physical and mental illnesses but all are diseases. When people get to understand the real facts of what mental illnesses are they refrain from making negative comments. Through this, they will embrace the idea of treating all sick persons equally thus eliminating social stigma. Additionally, social stigma can be fought by fighting it from within. In a nutshell, fighting stigma by not having stigma yourself. Those suffering from mental illnesses should not hide from the rest of society in shame but should be productive members of society. They should engage in development projects while taking their medication seriously thus proving to the rest of the world that one can live a meaningful life even when battling mental illness. Through this, the rest of the society will be challenged and their mindset in regard to these illnesses will change.
