All students must work with the Health Placement Team and receive a Field Experience Placement Confirmation Letter, before they can begin their Field Experience and Capstone. Please contact the Health Placement Team to obtain the organizational approval letter and preceptor agreement. In addition, you will need to work with Health Placement for an affiliation agreement if required by your facility/organization.

NURSING EDUCATION FIELD EXPERIENCE

Introduction:

In this task, you will identify a gap in a nursing education program that leaves nurses unprepared to complete a duty in the workplace. You will use the gap you identified to propose a solution that addresses the gap in the nursing education program. This solution should be designed for future nurses or nursing students.

Your proposed solution will not require you to conduct primary research but should use scholarly, peer-reviewed sources to support the proposed nursing education program improvement. As a result, this project will not require Institutional Review Board (IRB) approval. However, you will be required to conduct a comprehensive literature review of the primary, peer-reviewed studies you will use to identify best practices in support of your proposed solution.

During your capstone course, you will create implementation and evaluation plans that include the details of a lesson plan for your proposed curriculum. Once your project proposal is complete, you will create a professional presentation that outlines your plan and then present it to your leadership group.

Before you start your project, you will need to secure organizational approval by obtaining a letter of agreement from your preceptor.

Requirements:

Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. Use the Turnitin Originality Report available in Taskstream as a guide for this measure of originality.

You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.

A. Submit a scanned copy of a legible, completed approval letter from the organization where your project will be conducted, using the attached “Organizational Approval Letter Template.”

Note: Use the attached “Organizational Approval Instructions” and “Organizational Approval Letter Example” as references. The date range specified on your Organizational Approval Letter should reflect the realistic timeframe in which you will complete your field experience and capstone projects from beginning to end. Be sure to complete all fields on the form. All signatures must be completed in handwriting. All dates should include month, day, and year.

B. Submit a scanned copy of a legible, completed preceptor agreement, using the attached “Field Experience Preceptor Agreement Form Template.”

Note: Use the attached “Field Experience Preceptor Agreement Form Example” and “Field Experience Preceptor Agreement Form Instructions” as references. The preceptor agreement must be signed by a registered nurse holding any master’s or doctoral degree. Be sure to complete all fields on the form. All signatures must be completed in handwriting. All dates should include month, day, and year.

C. Summarize your project by doing the following:

1. Describe the gap your proposal will address.

2. Describe recent internal organizational trends leading up to the gap described in part C1.

3. Explain the specific organizational background causes of the gap identified in part C1.

4. Identify the nurse or nursing student audience that will be the target of your proposal.

a. Describe the characteristics of your target audience (e.g. education level, educational setting where the target audience will receive your proposed solution).

b. Discuss how your proposal will help the professional development of the target audience identified in part C4.

D. Explain your proposed solution (suggested length of 3-5 paragraphs) to address the gap identified in part C1.

E. Explain the intended outcomes of your proposed solution.

F. Provide an evidence summary synthesizing literature to support the solution you described in part D.

G. Provide a final reference list for your evidence summary, in APA format, that includes at least five scholarly, peer-reviewed sources that were published within the last five years.

Note: This reference list refers specifically to your evidence summary from part F.

H. Explain your proposed implementation plan, including the following:

1. a plan of action

2. a timeline

3. needed resources and personnel

4. the proposed change theory

5. barriers to implementation

I. Acknowledge sources, using APA-formatted in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

J. Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.

Intended Outcomes
Provide a narrative description of the intended outcomes of your project. What are the students expected to know, be able to demonstrate, and/or apply after attending your educational class/course?
Evidence Summary
The evidence summary is a narrative description of the findings/recommendations from at least five (5) articles from the peer-reviewed research literature published within the last five years. As an evidence based proposal, you are summarizing the evidence that supports your proposed solution (not that the gap exists).
The evidence summary is not an annotated bibliography or a separate critique of each source. Instead, you should dedicate several paragraphs to describe the common themes found in the findings & recommendations of the literature that support your educational proposal. The evidence summary includes proper use of APA in-text citations that have a corresponding and complete APA reference. The Reference page is at the end of the paper.
Plan of Action
The plan of action is a narrative description of your plan to address the problem and describes the development of your project. Focus the plan of action and timeline on the actual development of the educational proposal. The plan of action should include everything that will need to be completed to produce the evidence based educational proposal with lots of detail and in chronological order. Include: meeting with the preceptor, reviewing current gap, reviewing literature to support project, developing a Lesson Plan & the course or simulation (Course Name, Lesson Topic, Learning Objectives, Teaching/Instructional Strategies, Required Materials, Student Learning Outcomes, and Lesson Plan Details). Developing an implementation plan etc…
Timeline
Timeline should be an estimated timeline and reflect real time progress. You do not have to know specific dates; however, provide an estimation of the time involved with each step of your action plan for Week 1…2…3 etc. Everything that is in the Plan of Action is in the Timeline and everything in the Timeline is in the plan of action. The timeline describes specific activities that need to be completed and milestones that will be met to keep you on track with completing your project during field experience according to a weekly timeline
Resources and Personnel
Identify and describe the necessary resources that you will need to implement your project. Consider personnel, financial support, classroom space, printing costs, equipment, simulation or lab space etc…
Proposed Change Theory
Identify a change theory that will help guide and frame your project. Discuss each stage/step/phase of the theory and describe how it informs your project plan. See the course of study for more information.
Barriers to Implementation
Discuss potential barriers you may encounter with planning the implementation of your project (time, people, finances) and how will you mitigate the potential barriers.
